Citrus Art Summer Kids Activity
Summer is a long road of routines and non routines, playing, inside and out, and of course boredom. These days it can be really difficult for kids to get bored. We don’t allow our girls to watch shows all day long and limit screen time every day. So after making some fresh lemonade and home made popsicles, I thought of a fun way to reuse the empty lemons and limes! This Citrus Art Summer Kids Activity is great way to spark their creativity while using what you’ve got!

This Citrus Art Summer Activity for Kids is a great way to repurpose those lemons, limes, grapefruit, and oranges throughout the season. After making a big batch of lemonade, make sure you save those citrus shells! They double as a tool for creating the cutest summer art that little ones will enjoy getting creative with.
What You’ll Need:
- Citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, limes, or grapefruits)
- Canvas or thick paper
- Washable paint
- Paper plates or shallow dishes
- Aprons or old t-shirts (for easy cleanup)

Steps:
- Prep the Workspace: Lay down some newspaper or an old tablecloth to protect your surface. Set up the canvas and paints.
- Cut the Citrus: Slice the citrus fruits in half. Each half will serve as a natural stamp, creating unique patterns.
- Dip and Stamp: Pour different paint colors onto paper plates. Let your kids dip the cut side of the citrus into the paint, then press it onto the canvas to create vibrant, textured prints. Large stamp pads also work great.
- Get Creative: Experiment with different fruits and colors. Encourage your kids to mix and match, overlap prints, and explore their creativity.
- Dry and Display: Once the canvas is covered in beautiful citrus prints, let it dry completely. Proudly display your children’s artwork in your home.

This hands-on activity not only sparks creativity but also introduces kids to the fun of DIY projects. It enhances their fine motor skills as they grasp and press the citrus halves. The vibrant colors and unique patterns stimulate their visual senses and imagination. Plus, using natural materials like citrus fruits teaches them about resourcefulness and the versatility of everyday items. It’s a perfect blend of art, education, and fun that keeps kids engaged and entertained. Happy stamping!
